PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT PRIVATE EUROPEAN COLLECTOR
Kashan, Iran, 13th century

Of unusual hexagonal shape, resting on a splayed short foot, the dish moulded into a lobed rosette-like centre and with flattened rim, painted in copper-lustre against a white ground, the decoration consisting of a central seated figure wearing a dotted robe, a split palmette tendril on the left hand-side, the cavetto with bands of stylised vegetal scrollwork, the rim with white roundels in negative on a copper-lustre ground, the exterior monochrome-painted in cobalt blue, 16cm diam. and 4cm high.
