A closely matched set of four George III sterling silver candlesticks, London 1782/83 by John Scofield (reg. 13th Jan 1778)

Composed of two pairs. In the neoclassical style, the circular bases with borders of beading between a cavetto edge, the fluted central column with beaded knops, the fluted capitals each fitted with a removable circular sconce with beaded edge. Each engraved to the bases and to two of the sconces with a crest of a talbot's head couped, collared between three cinquefoils. Each fully marked underneath (one 1782), each sconce with lion passant and makers mark only. (4)

Height – 28.2 cm / 11.15 inches and 27.1 cm / 10.7 inches
