A VERY FINE SILK QUM PRAYER RUG, CENTRAL PERSIA

The soft rust field with serrated palmettes, delicate floral and leafy sprays together with central floral panel single arabesque column at each side forming a mihrab above with similar design. In soft deep red border of incription cartouches between arabesques and plain stripes, approx: 217cm. x 136cm. Very nicely drawn and unusual design. This rug has full pile, very soft and lustrous silk. Both ends with fringes secured. Salvages original. Very fine weave approx: 8 x 8 knots per sq.cm; woven on silk foundation. In general this rug is in very good usable conditon. Attractive and very good furnishing piece.
