A late 19th / early 20th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver bachelor tea service, Calcutta circa 1900
Raj period. Comprising a teapot, a milk jug, a twin handled sugar bowl. Each of compressed circular form, the teapot with a curved spout opposite a loop handled modelled as bamboo, fitted with ivory insulators. The hinged domed lid surmounted by a figure of a caparisoned elephant statant finial. The bodies with embossed decoration in village pattern, showing oxen ploughing a field, water being pulled from a well, all with village houses, palm trees and figures performing wonted tasks. Each engraved to the plain upper band with initials AB in cypher. (3)
