A VERY FINE SILK QUM RUG, CENTRAL PERSIA

The light rust plain field with large hexagon medallion with pendants containing polychrome stepped palmettes, hooked bars and rosettes. Hooked and linked spandrels with similar design. In light beige border of stylised angualr floral and leafy sprays between double floral meander stripes. Outer barber-pole and plain stripes, approx; 7ft.2in. x 4ft.7in.(218cm. x 140cm.) Lovely example from Qum weaving. Colours are very well blended and nicely drawn design, bold appearance. This rug has full pile with soft silk. Very fine weave, approx: 9 x 9 knots per sq. cm; woven on silk foundation. Selvages original. Ends with short fringes, slightly fraying at one end. In general this rug is in very good usable condition. Attractive and very elegant piece.
