A rare Victorian sterling silver novelty travelling inkwell London 1874 by Jane Brownett (reg. 2nd Jan 1868)

Formed as a carpenter’s plane, hinged section with push button release, with ring attachment. Stamped Jenner & Knewstub, 33 St James Street. Fully marked and part-marked.

Length – 6.9 cm / 2.75 inches

Weight – 89 grams / 2.86 ozt

Established around 1856 by Frederick Jenner and Fabian James Knewstub, they were located at 33 St James’s Street, and then later in 1862, at 66 Jermyn Street, London. Their work was displayed at the International Exhibition of 1862 and at the International Exposition of 1878 in Paris.
