λ A PAIR OF MOTHER-OF-PEARL AND BONE-INLAID ORIENTALIST MASHRABIYA-STYLE LOW TABLES
Egypt, mid to late 20th century
Comprising two almost identical Orientalist low tables, each of rectangular shape, resting on four globular feet, the legs worked in the shape of ogival arches with a cusped centre and a black-and-white frieze as frame, the top and sides worked in the same openwork mashrabiya-style with rows of balustrade-like clusters in several repeating rectangular grids, the tabletop and the sides of the legs enhanced with mother-of-pearl and bone marquetry work featuring typical Islamic patterns like hexagonal medallions filled with starbursts, intertwined knotwork and fretwork bands, each high 45cm x wide 97cm x deep 55cm.
