Of rectangular form with a hinged lid. The glazed lid set with a print by HM Bateman with caption ‘Remember that it is no joke, If you should happen to revoke.’ Cedar wood interior. Fully marked to the side and stamped ‘COPYRIGHT OF THE ARTIST’.

Henry Mayo Bateman (1887-1970) was a British humorous artist and cartoonist most noted for his “The Man Who…” series of cartoons which featured comically exaggerated reactions to minor and usually upper-class social gaffes, such as “The Man Who Lit His Cigar Before the Royal Toast”, “The Man Who Threw a Snowball at St. Moritz” and “The Boy Who Breathed on the Glass at the British Museum” which appeared in the satirical magazine Punch.
