A heavy George II sterling silver condiment or sugar vase, London 1751 by Peter Archambo II & Peter Meure (reg. 18th Jan 1750)
Of campana form raised on a waisted circular foot with a gadrooned rim, the baluster section of the body with dancette part-fluting. The upper section with laurel rim and two twin C-scroll handles with shell junction. The removable gently domed lid with gadrooned edge and with dancette part-fluting, surmounted by a pineapple with calyx finial. Gilt interior, the side and lid engraved with a contemporaneous crest of dragon’s head couped. Fully marked underneath and part-marked to lid.

Peter Archambo II (1724-1768) was the son of Peter Archambo, the famed Huguenot silversmith. He was apprenticed to Paul de Lamerie on 5th Dec 1738 but then turned over, on that day, to his father. He entered his mark with his cousin Meure where they worked from Golden Cup, Coventry Street.
A sugar bowl and cover of 1752 by these makers with the same form of handles and finials was sold Christie’s London, 14 May 2003, Lot 338 (£4,451 incl. premium).
