AN ETCHED METAL LITHOGRAPH PLATE FEATURING THE QALAWUN COMPLEX IN CAIRO

Of typical rectangular shape, the centre of the plate etched with a busy street scene set in Cairo, Egypt, the background featuring a tall minaret and a domed building with two-tone outer walls, most probably a rendering of the Qalawun complex built by Sultan al-Mansur Qalawun in 1284 - 1285, one of the major monuments of Islamic Cairo, notable for the size and scope of its charitable operations as well as for the richness and variety of its architecture typical of the Mamluk period, 26.5cm x 16cm.
