A CHINESE QINGBAI SHALLOW 'PHOENIX' BOWL.

Song Dynasty.

The rounded sides emerging from a slightly inverted flat base, the interior finely carved with a pair of pheonixes, each with wings dramatically fanned beneath a flaming bifurcated tail, the head of each turned leftwards, the necks with a mane of feathers, together with a fitted wooden stand raised on five splayed legs connected by a stretcher, 17cm diameter. (2)

Provenance: an English private collection, acquired from S. Marchant & Son on 16th February 1963 for £61 [label], purchased by Marchant for £44 from Sotheby’s 29 October 1957, collection of Mrs Amber Blanco White OBE (1887 – 1981) - A. Blanco White [label].
