A Victorian sterling silver vinaigrette, London 1851 by Charles Rawlings and William Summers
Of rectangular form, the hinged lid with a plain thumbpiece. The lid with engraved decoration of a vacant cartouche of arabesques, corned with lattice work reserves, within a scalloped band reserved with foliate C scrolls against a striated ground. The obverse similarly engraved, centred with a rose bouquet. The sides with engraved arabesques. The gilt interior with a hinged pierced and engraved grill of scrolls. Fully marked to base, part-marked to the lid, the grill with maker’s mark and lion passant only.
