AN ANTIQUE KARAGASHLI RUG, EAST CAUCASUS

The shaded light rust-red field with light blue hooked anf floral motifs octagon in an each corner together with dart-motfs and hooked panels. Central large stepped indigo medallion containing stylised dart-motifs and hooked bars enclosing serrated linked lozenge ivory octagonal frame with central hooked and serrated bold centerpiece. In an ivory bold crab-rosette border between charcoal-black and rust angular floral vine stripes. Outer barber-pole and plain stripes, approx: 6ft.4in. x 4ft.2in.(193cm. x 127cm.) Classic for this type with very well drawn design and good colur combinaton. Bold appearance. This rug has slightly corroded black (due to age), touches of wear to the top pile in few places. Selvages rebound with slightly fraying on the cord in tiny places. Few very small old repairs and small hole at one side guard stripe. In general this rug has good pile and is in good usable condition. The imperfection can be easily fixed. (contact department for further information). Both ends with original kilim and fringes. Small loss to guard stripe in one corner. Good type and attractive piece.
