Hepburn (Audrey)

Hepburn (Audrey)

Typed letter signed ('and love Audrey') to her doctor, thanking him for his wonderful "warm and wonderful cable" and adding "I know I do not have to describe our happiness to you as you are the one person I know fully understands. The baby is such a dream and I find it hard to believe he is really all ours and for keeps. As you know by now he was nine and a half pounds at birth. He was rather overdue and was having some trouble with the umbilical cord so the doctor decided to induce labour by a slow infusion into my arm. As the baby's heart held up very well, labour proceeded normally although very fast. He was born in three hours. The last hour was rather difficult as he presented himself with the back of his head instead of the top as he had 'missed the turn' and the doctor needed me awake and helping to the very last. More clinical details when I see you in October as we will then be in New York for a few weeks. Anyway all that was forgotten half an hour later and only the bliss remains. Mel joins me ins ending you our as always most affectionate thoughts", one page, some discolouration and creasing, 4to, 2 August 1960, mounted for display, framed and glazed, overall size 53.5 x 42cm.
