EIGHT SMALL CHINESE JARS.

A CHINESE POTTERY TEAPOT AND COVER AND SEVEN SMALL JARS.

The teapot carved with horizontal ribs and applied with a lizard handle, a short spout and decorated with a pale-blue glaze and heart-shaped pattern, the ovoid jars with narrow necks including three celadon-glazed pieces, two green-glazed jars, one blue and white jar and one white-glazed jar with brown splashes, four with small loop handles to the shoulders, 9cm H. (9)

Provenance: from the collection of David Scrase (1949 – 2020).

Renowned scholar and curator, David Scrase was Honorary Keeper of Italian Drawings, Honorary Marlay Group member, former Assistant Keeper, then Keeper, of Paintings, Drawings and Prints and Assistant Director (Collections) of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. An internationally acclaimed authority on Italian art, particularly drawings, Scrase published extensively and on a variety of subjects. His generosity was well known through the numerous thoughtful donations to the Fitzwilliam and other museums he made throughout his lifetime.
