A SQUARE DAMASCUS POTTERY TILE WITH ARABESQUE
Ottoman Syria, 17th century
Of square shape, part of a larger repeating design, underglaze painted in green, cobalt blue and turquoise in black outlines against a white ground, decorated with an interlace of stylised lotus flower heads, rosette sprays and cusped cartouches containing intricate arabesque patterns of split palmettes, 22cm x 23.8cm.
