Hanibal Srouji was born in Lebanon in 1957. During the Lebanese civil war, he worked as a Red Cross volunteer before fleeing to Canada in 1976. Here he obtained a BA in Social Science, and both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Fine Arts. Srouji’s experience of the war was a great source of inspiration for his art. Srouji’s Terre-Mer is composed of loose, impressionistic washes of colour, which create an abstracted landscape of sea and land. The vertical perspective alludes to Chinese landscape paintings and Islamic miniatures.

Estimated at £2,000 - £3,000
