AUTOGRAPH LETTER BY WALLIS, DUCHESS OF WINDSOR

addressed to Mrs Frances Perkins, reading "So many thanks for the lovely flowers, the tuberoses are my favourites and have scented the room too beautifully. The Duke and I were so sorry you could not come to the Sterlings yesterday as we had very much wanted to see you during our short visit. We shall be back again before leaving America and we hope for better luck. The Duke joins me in wishing you a very Merry Christmas and much happiness in the New Year", two pages, light folding marks, in excellent condition, 4to, British Embassy, Washington D.C., 15 December 1946; with original envelope addressed in Wallis's hand.

***Francis Perkins (1882-1965) was appointed Secretary of Labour by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1933. She was the first woman to hold a cabinet position.
