Song Dynasty.

With a shallow body and flared sides decorated overall with black glaze, the interior marked with five russet strokes drawn from the white-glazed rim, 18.5cm diameter.

Provenance: from the collection of David Scrase (1949 – 2020).

Renowned scholar and curator, David Scrase was Honorary Keeper of Italian Drawings, Honorary Marlay Group member, former Assistant Keeper, then Keeper, of Paintings, Drawings and Prints and Assistant Director (Collections) of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. An internationally acclaimed authority on Italian art, particularly drawings, Scrase published extensively and on a variety of subjects. His generosity was well known through the numerous thoughtful donations to the Fitzwilliam and other museums he made throughout his lifetime.
