Royal Warrant of King George V,

declaring the titled appointment of Sir Balthazar Foster to Baron Ilkeston of Derbyshire, ink, wash and body colour on thick paper, minor fading and spotting, large pendant seal at foot, sheet 70cm x 86cm, 1910.

***Baron Ilkeston of Ilkeston in the County of Derby was a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, appointed on the 14th of July 1910. The physician and politician Sir Balthazar Foster’s success as a politician was defined by his medical background as, between 1892 and 1895, his work helped to prevent the 1893 Cholera epidemic from reaching Britain. The title became extinct on the death of his youngest son (the second Baron) on the 4th January 1952.
