AN ANTIQUE BALOUCH RUG, NORTH-EAST PERSIA

The fox brown field with two columns of large hookes octagons, devided by hooked bars and panels , some of them with stylised birds in an indigo border of hooked lozenges and hooked bars, between angular panel, barber-pole and linked arch stripes. Embroidered kilim at each end and fringes approx. 193cm x 102cm. A very good example for this type with nicely drawn design. this rug has slight wear to the top pile in few places. Charcoal brown is slightly corroded. salvages partky rebound with touches of fraying. Date and signature cartouche at one end, 'Babayan' AH 1303 (1885). In general, this rug is in good usable condition. Attractive piece.
