A fine Chinese export famille-rose candlestick, Qing dynasty, Qianlong period, circa 1780
清乾隆 約1780年 外銷粉彩燭台

Formed as a foliate dish with a domed centre supporting a naturalistic stem painted faux bois, terminating in a protruding bamboo-form gilt-painted rim, the loop handle formed as a dragon with its head turned to face its body, the dish scattered with fruiting vines sprouting colourful bunches of grapes as squirrels scurry nearby, the larger squirrel surmounted by a cover, the dish painted with leafy sprays and a figural scene

Notes:

See a pair of larger candlesticks from the Tibor collection with similar features, dated to the Qianlong period circa 1785, sold at Christie's New York, 23 Jan 2020, lot 97 [link]; and another similar pair at the same rooms, 26 Jan 2015, 36 [link].
