A collection of 42 volumes, including 2 duplicates and 40 titles (of 44) from the A & C Black Limited Edition series, including: Spielmann (Marion Hary) & Layard (G. S.) Kate Greenaway, Number 266 of 500 Copies in the De Luxe Edition, signed by John Greenaway and including an original pencil sketch by Kate Greenaway, also including a loosely inserted autograph postcard inviting a Miss Evans to tea (c.1880s), pictorial endpapers, 1905; Menpes (Dorothy) World’s Children, Number 5 of 500 Copies, one of the 50 copies with an original watercolour by Mortimer Menpes as a frontispiece, 1903; each signed by the author, illustrator or publisher, or marked as an engraver’s or printer’s copy, numerous colour plates with tissue guards, 7 with contemporary inscriptions to preliminaries, intermittent spotting, offsetting to most endpapers, ‘Holy Land’ with new endpapers, 8 with bookplates, all in original blind-stamped, gilt and printed cloth, ’Royal Palaces and Gardens’ in original dust jacket (some staining, chipped), t.e.g., a few with minor cracking to spines internally, varying degrees of staining to covers, ‘Japan’ with scratch to spine, large 4to, 1901-16 [with] Dick (Stewart) The Cottage Homes of England, Number 231 of 500 copies, staining to spine, Edward Arnold, 1909 (43)

***These large paper copies of titles from A & C Black’s 20s and 7s 6d series were sold at a minimum of 2 guineas each. From the complete series of 44, this collection lacks only: Yorkshire; Whistler As I Knew Him; Rome; The New Forest.
