PROVENANCE:
Philipp Herrmann (Karlsruhe 1899-1968) (L.1352a).
Philipp Herrmann started his career as a painter and became an independent restorer in 1936. His collection (still largely held by his descendants) comprised mainly 18th-century German and Italian drawings, such as the drawing by Jacob Matthias Weyer in the Metropolitan Museum, New York (inv. 2005.149). He also collected 19th century drawings and prints.
