FOUR PAINTINGS OF COURTLY LADIES
Rajasthan and Delhi Schools, Northern India, late 19th and 20th century

Opaque pigments, ink and pencil heightened with gold on paper, comprising two portraits of Indian courtly ladies on their own, the first typical of the Jaipuri school with a lady in an interior, holding a small drinking cup in her hands, fully bejewelled and wearing a red shawl around her shoulders and on her head, backed in wasli paper, 40.2cm x 30.5cm, the second a full portrait of a very thin courtesan in Delhi school style, resting against a yellow bolster, a white cat nestled inbetween her legs, 41.5cm x 30.5cm; and two further paintings with a courtly lady in the company of her attendants, and a lady and her lover (in Kishangarh style), the largest 52cm x 33cm.
