A ZAND-STYLE OPENWORK BRASS VASE
Qajar Iran, 19th century

Of reverted pyriform shape, the tapering bulbous body resting on an everted conical stand on a stepped square pedestal, rising to narrow shoulders and a wide and everted conical neck with a circular straight rim, the full vase pierced with fine Zand-style openwork decorations consisting of interlocking split palmette scrolls, flower sprays and foliage, around the base and on the body vertical bands of engraved birds amidst flowers and vegetal stems, the neck and slim end of the vase decorated with tri-lobed arches filled with youths, princes and demons against a vegetal background, 18.5cm diam. and 54cm high.
