A George VI sterling silver gold sovereign and pond set cigarette case, Birmingham 1937 by Stephanus Paul Ora and Co
Of rectangular form, with the Asprey paten slide mechanism. The front set with a George V 1928 Full Sovereign, the back with a South African 1898 One Pond. The sovereign set within an unmarked square frame, each side with gold bosses to the corners. All over with engine turned decoration. Engraved inside ‘Marion’ and ‘Alpheus’ with the date 16 – 5 – 38. Fully and part-marked, also stamped ORA< CAMBRIDGE & OXFORD.

This relates to Alpheus Fuller Williams (1912-1962), born in London, the son of Alpheus Fuller Williams (1874-1953) of America and South Africa, and Constance Margaret Dalziel Smith (1883–1949) of Kimberley, Northern Cape, South Africa. He married Marion De La Roi (1911-55), born Berlin Germany, in April 1938 in London. Alpheus died in Johannesburg, South Africa.
