A near pair of George II/III sterling silver sauceboats, one London 1764 by William Grundy

Each of bellied oval form with gadrooned rim, raised on three stylised shell feet with quilted legs and scalloped junctions, a quilted double C scroll handle with shaped junction. Each later engraved with a crest of a cubit arm in armour, the gauntlet holding a fleur-de-lis encircled in a motto. The other sauceboat slightly larger, London probably 1753 likely be the same maker. (2)

Smaller – 18.5 cm / 7.35 inches

Weight – 646 grams / 20.77 ozt

The crest is for Ramsden

For John Charles Francis Ramsden (1835-1910) who married Emma Susan Duncombe (d.1897) in 1863, he the son of Captain Henry James Ramsden (1799-1871) and Frederica Selina Law (c.1812-1879) daughter of Sir Edward Law 1st Baron Ellenborough (1750-1818). The grandson of Sir John Ramsden, 4th Baronet (1755 – 1839) and Louisa Susan Ingram-Shepheard (d.1857) the daughter of Charles Ingram, 9th Viscount of Irvine (1727 – 1778). Emma Susan the daughter of Rev. Edward Duncombe (1802-1888) rector of Newton Kyme, York and Susan Mainwaring (1804-1854) daughter of Rev. Charles Mainwaring (1768-1807) of Oteley Park, Shropshire who were married in 1825.
