Opaque pigments heightened with gold on wove and stained paper, the vertical composition depicting a bust portrait of two British military officials, the one on the left wearing a red field service frock in use in the Infantry Regiment from 1896 onwards, the one on the right wearing a navy blue field service frock, and navy blue and red cap in use for 1st Class Sergeants in the Artillery Regiment from 1881 until 1902, both wearing pearl earrings, the portrait a classic example of the long-lasting impact of Anglo-Indian relations on the traditional arts of India, set within an oval medallion within ochre yellow ground with white flowers, within blue and white rules, and red and green borders, mounted on a white cardboard frame, the folio 37.5cm x 29.5cm, 50.2cm x 39.4cm including the mount.
