An Elizabeth II sterling silver novelty cast salt, London 1990 by Trevor Towner
After the Victorian ‘bear baiting’ model, formed as a muzzled and chained bear to a wooden post, upon a circular stand modelled as turf upon for foliate scroll feet, interspersed with shells, the base with a detachable model of a wicker basket. Gilt interior to basket. Fully marked to base and part-marked to basket underside.
Height – 10 cm / 4 inches
Weight – 794 grams / 25.53 ozt
Purchased, misdescribed as 1909, was sold Wooley and Wallis, 28 April 2010, lot 691 (£1100 hammer)
