PROVENANCE:
with The Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh

Felim Egan was favourably recognised for his controlled abstract paintings and his monochromatic works capturing geometric shapes. Egan exhibited extensively throughout Europe with significant exhibitions at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester, the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. In the work presented, the painting is established with thin layers of paint and stone powder ground into acrylic; this creates large blankets of monochromatic colour. Abstract in appearance and yet the application of paint portrays a powerful landscape with subtle symbols that add meaning and depth to the work.
