A CHINESE BRONZE VASE, GU.

Ming Dynasty.

Rising from a galleried splayed foot to a raised midsection and a widely flared rim, cast with multiple articulated rings throughout the body, reserved on a ground of leiwen, wan and lappets encircling the neck, with yellowish-green patina and green encrustation, loose base, 27cm H, 2.35kg.

Provenance: from the collection of the celebrated British artist Josef Herman, OBE R.A. (1911 – 2000). His works have been acquired by virtually every major collection in the UK but he was also known as a passionate art collector. His collection of African tribal art has been exhibited widely and his collection of Asian and Indian art had a particular focus on form.
