The finely potted shallow dish with rising from a short tapering foot, with gently rounded sides and everted rim, the exterior carved with lotus petals, the interior applied with a pair of scaly fish swimming in opposite directions, covered in an olive-green glaze

Renowned scholar and curator, David Scrase was Honorary Keeper of Italian Drawings, Honorary Marlay Group member, former Assistant Keeper, then Keeper, of Paintings, Drawings and Prints and Assistant Director (Collections) of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. An internationally acclaimed authority on Italian art, particularly drawings, Scrase published extensively and on a variety of subjects. His generosity was well known through the numerous thoughtful donations to the Fitzwilliam and other museums he made throughout his lifetime;
