The present work appears to be derived from an illustration for Die Bibel in Bildern (Plate 27) engraved by Steinbrecher (fig. 1) after a drawing by the Nazarene painter Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld. A version of the plate was published for the first time in the Art Journal in 1851.
