York town mark - A very rare George III provincial sterling silver teapot, York 1809 by Robert Cattle & James Barber (active 1808-1814) Of bellied oval form with everted lip with moulded edge upon a collet foot. The panelled curved spout opposite a wooden angular handle. The hinged gently domed lid surmounted by a wooden finial. Fully marked underneath with York town mark as well, the lid with lion passant only. Length – 29 cm / 11 inches Weight – 697 grams / 22.41 ozt The town mark of York is only rarely encountered on York silverware. This partnership was dissolved on the 1st of January 1814.
