ANONYMOUS, THIRTEEN JAPANESE BIRD STUDIES, KACHŌGA.

Edo period, dated 1821.

Ink and colour on paper, including thirteen realistic illustrations of various species of birds and fowl including mallard (magamo), coot (oban), smew (mikoaisa), Korean yellow duck, rock ptarmigan (raicho), each inscribed, dated Bunsei yonen kanotomi nigatsu nijuichinichi, the equivalent of 21st day of the second month, 1821, various sizes from 20.5 - 41.5cm. Provenance: from the collection of Cyril and Shirley Fry, fabled dealers in watercolours and drawings for more than thirty years.
