A SAFAVID BLUE AND WHITE QALYAN
Safavid Iran, 17th century
Of stout, globular form, designed in the typical squatted globular shape of Asian kendis (water bottles, spouted pouring vessels), with a short flared neck, with a later 18th or 19th century copper mount, and a protruding rounded spout on the shoulder, all painted in cobalt blue with black outlines against a milky white ground, and decorated with typical motifs inspired by Asian and Chinese blue and white porcelains. The base presenting pseudo-Chinese seal and porcelain marks, 19.2cm high.
