A pair of George I dessert spoons, London 1724, maker’s mark obscured

Hanoverian pattern, with rat tail bowl, the terminal engraved with a crest of a griffin’s head erm, between two wing’s. Together with a George II Irish dessert spoon, Dublin circa 1730 maker’s mark obscured, engraved with a helm with a crest of a ostrich above, encircled in a motto ‘tria juncta in uno’ surmounted by an Earl’s coronet. (3)

the crest and coronet are probably for John Sidney, 6th Earl of Leicester KB (1680 –1737) he was a Lord of the Bedchamber, 1717 to 1727, Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, 1717 to 1728, Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard, 1725 to 1731, Lord Lieutenant of Kent from 1724 until his death, a Privy Councillor and Constable of the Tower of London from 1731.
