A LATE 18TH CENTURY ENGLISH MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK BY PETER CLARE OF MANCHESTER

A LATE 18TH CENTURY ENGLISH MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK BY PETER CLARE OF MANCHESTER circa 1770, the hood with swan neck pediment mounted with two gilt roundels topped by a flat top with two urns and a central gilt ball finial, the corners with free standing fluted columns, the trunk with a shaped door flanked by fluted pilasters an a plinth base, the 12" brass arched dial with gilt pierced mask spandrels, the silver chapter ring with Roman numerals with an outer five minute track with Arabic numerals, the gilt centre engraved with floral motif with a date aperture and subsidiary seconds dial, the bottom of the chapter ring signed 'P Clare, Manchester', the arch centred by a painted rolling moonphase with the age of the moon on the outer edge, the weight driven movement with anchor escapement, striking the hour on a bell, with pendulum and two weights, 240cm high
