Jiří Kolář, made a number of works engaging with Charles Baudelaire (especially his Les Fleurs du Mal series where this work is from) — often in collages, rollages and prollages, where images and the figure of Baudelaire are fragmented, reassembled, overlaid, and disrupted. His “Baudelaire” images are among some of his best known and most thematically dense pieces, combining visual‑poetic, structural, and symbolic gestures.
