The delicately potted dish of fine body with shallow rounded sides resting on a short foot, the dish enamelled in green reserved against a black-ground, the interior depicting two birds, possibly finches, perched on a gnarled branch of a pine tree and two large poeony blossoms and smaller flower buds issuing from rockwork, the exterior decorated with sprays of lingzhi scroll, the base inscribed in underglaze-blue with a six-character Yongzheng mark within a double-circle.

Notably, a dish was sold at Christie’s, London, 9 November 2004, lot 179. Further related examples include a pair of dishes featuring a prunus branch design, sold at Sotheby's, 23 May 1975, lot 164, and another pair from the esteemed Stephen Junkunc III collection, which was sold at Christie’s, New York, 21 September 2000, lot 400, now housed in the Wang Xing Lou collection. This latter pair was also included in the exhibition Imperial Perfection: The Palace Porcelain of Three Chinese Emperors at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts in 2004 (cat. no. 32).

Another similarly decorated dish, featuring a central motif of a bird amongst flowers, is illustrated in John Ayers' Chinese Ceramics in the Baur Collection (vol. 2, Geneva, 1999, pl. 206).
