A VERY FINE SILK KASHAN PRAYER RUG, CENTRAL PERSIA

The ivory field with stylised large flowering vase at one end together with flowering plants. Single column at each side supporting floral mihrab above. In rich burgundy-red border of polychrome palmettes, arabesques and delicate flowering vine between floral, reciprocal and plain stripes, approx: 197cm. x 127cm. Very good example for this type with well drawn design and good colour combination. This rug has wear on the field and border down to knot collar and below. Selvages replaced, well done. Ends with slight loss to the outer guard stripes, short fringes, secured. Very fine weave, approx: 9 x 8 knots per sq. cm; woven on silk foundation. Despite the imperfections which are reflected in an estimate, this rug is in fair usable conditon, still retains its classic look.
