An album of 50 mixed albumen prints and early silver gelatin prints, image 10.5 x16cm (smallest) to 23 x29cm (largest), pasted down onto album pages, overall measuring 33 x25.5cm; most with manuscript captions [French] in red ink on margin, some titled, numbered, and signed in the negative. Photographers include Skeen &Co. (active 1860-1920), Zangaki Brothers (active 1860-1890), Hippolyte Arnoux (active 1860-1890), Pierre Dieulefils (1862-1937), among others.
Subjects include Bay of Fort-de-France, Martinique; Nile River, near Cairo; Mount Lavinia, Colombo, and other views of Ceylon by Skeen &Co (3); a group of 14 prints depicting views of Tonkin, Hanoi, and Lang Son, Vietnam, such as Camp of the Tonkinese riflemen at Fort Brulay; Pottery Street, Hanoi; a group portrait of silver bar casters; tea weeders in the fields, among others; each captioned, and numbered in the negative, and with typed publisher's copyright Henry Cremnitz, Paris on margin, (5) with Pierre Dieulefils's, Hanoi, stamp on margin.
The album also includes a group of 12 prints by Zangaki, featuring views of Cairo, Port Said, Suez Canal, Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx, and portraits of arab women and men, each signed and captioned in the negative; a portrait of two young Sudanese soldiers, by H. Arnoux, among others.
Housed in red morocco leather boards, with gilt decorations.
