TWO INDIAN POLYCHROME-PAINTED LACQUERED PANELS

Of typical rectangular shape, each polychrome-painted, gilt and lacquered, the first panel depicting an intimate moment between Lord Krishna and his Beloved, the couple caught in a tender embrace on a palatial terrace under a crescent moon, the night scene framed within a lobed red and gold arch with raised gilt and lacquered vegetal sprays on the squinches, the same decoration repeated around the frame, the back painted in plain yellow, 39.8cm x 23cm; and the latter similarly decorated, featuring a group of ladies on horseback, the raised lobed arch enhanced with lush, polychrome floral stems and scrolls, a band of rosettes on a gold ground framing the composition, the back painted in plain red, signed in white ink Bhagvan Sharma on the lower right corner, 43.5cm x 25cm.
