Greene (Graham) The Complaisant Lover. A Play, FIRST EDITION, inscribed by the author for his lead Ralph Richardson, bookplates, original blue boards with publisher's device blind stamped to lower board, spine lettered in gilt, top corners slightly bumped, dust-jacket a little frayed with minor soiling, 8vo, William Heinemann, 1959. ***Inscribed by Greene for Ralph Richardson, who played Victor Rhodes in the play's initial run: "For Ralph, with gratitude & affection, from Graham. 18.6.59". The latter date is that of the play's first performance at the Globe Theatre, where it was produced by John Gielgud. Gielgud and Richardson would later be used as central characters in Greene's play 'Yes and No'. Richardson's bookplate is below the inscription on the flyleaf.
