PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT EUROPEAN PRIVATE COLLECTION
Kirman, Safavid Iran, 17th century
Of gourd-like shape, with slightly flattened sides, resting on a short circular foot and rising to a long tapering tubular neck, painted in red, green, and cobalt blue on white ground, the body of the bottle featuring large cusped palmette design, each palmette filled with a range of motifs including fine rosette stems with spiked leaves, stippling, Chinese-inspired lotus flowers and stylised rock designs, the neck with vertical bands of lotus flower heads, 32.2cm high.
An almost identical Kirman pottery bottle was sold at Christie's London, 26 April 2013, lot 748.
