A SINGHA-SHAPED GILT NIELLOWARE STEEL BETEL NUT CUTTER
Thailand, South East Asia, 19th century

Designed in the shape of a singha, the renowned Thai mythical lion, a symbol of Power, Strength, Courage, and Leadership, the two conical tapering handles terminating in lotus buds pommels and clad in gold and silver nielloware with a chequered pattern, the steel blade engraved with festoons and fretwork bands, 17cm long.
