TWO CHINESE HONGMU AND HARDWOOD STANDS.

Qing Dynasty, 19th Century.

The larger stand supported on a band of thirty pierced lappets, of graduated length, every other four with two longer lappets forming the five feet, the smaller stand similarly decorated with thirty lappets, each sixth one supported on a toed foot, 5.2-6.5cm H, 10.5-16cm diameter. (2)

Provenance: an English private collection.

This style of stand appears to have been favoured for the display of Mughal jade bowls, for a related example see The Collection of Stands in the Palace Museum, Part II, p. 159.
