A George III Scottish sterling silver coffee pot, Edinburgh 1771 by Robert Clark
Of baluster form upon a spreading circular foot, the cast shell form spout with cartouche section opposite a wooden C scroll handle pinned to scroll junctions leading to a hinged domed lid surmounted by a bell form finial. The body with a chased lower band of rocaille C scrolls with bouquets of fruit and trailing flowers, the upper section with garlands of flowers, the lid with chased calyx. Fully marked underneath.
Height – 24.7 cm / 9.75 inches
Weight – 1003 grams / 32.25 ozt
When compared to the survival rates of teapots, 18th century Scottish coffee pots are rather scarce.
