With rounded ends and sliding tray, polychrome-painted and gilt against an ochre ground, the horizontal composition on the top and sides finely painted with narrative scenes set in green landscapes, including young princes in Indian attire consulting a sage and maidens in conversation, the sides with scenes from the story of Shirin and Khosrow in Nizami's Khamseh, including their mystical meeting through each other's portraits, the top with a later inscription of an invocation to the fifth Shi'a saint, Baqir, the Zand artist Aqa Baqir's signature (takhallos), and the date 1184 AH (1770 AD), the base and inner tray walls in red lacquer with gold lotus flowers, the main inner tray in black, 23.5cm x 4cm x 3cm.
